POSITION
Saint Thomas Academy seeks a Full-time Learning Specialist for the 2023-24 school year. The
qualified candidate is willing to embrace the mission of Saint Thomas Academy and the philosophy of
the Counseling Department.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Learning Specialist works closely with
students, faculty, and the administration in the Middle and Upper School. The Learning Specialist
supports students with learning strategies, organization, study skills, and small group instruction, as
appropriate.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support Saint Thomas Academy and the St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese’s mission and

• Actively participate in Counseling department functions of the Academy
• In support of the mission and goals of Saint Thomas Academy, employees will follow all

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains a caseload of students grades six through twelve
• Develops and implements accommodation plans based on neuropsychological assessments
• Designs and implements a Response to Intervention (RtI) framework to identify, track, and

support neurodiverse students. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and parents to support
students through the formal neuropsychological diagnostic process, when necessary

• Implements Academic Recovery Plan for academically ineligible students
• Communicates regularly with families, teachers, administrators, and counselors to ensure

policies and procedures as they relate to the Department of Student Services

• Assumes an active role in Students Teachers Assistance team (STAt)
• Participates in Parent-Teacher conferences to discuss student progress
• Performs other duties as determined by the Director of Student Services

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

• Participate in professional growth, in-services, workshops and staff development

• Cooperate with administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs
• Attend faculty, department and committee meetings as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Appropriate degree and experience working with middle and/or high school students required
• Advanced degree and appropriate licensure preferred
